Horse Barding Weekend

February  24th-26th, 2012

This non-SCA event is an opportunity to plan and produce medieval horse barding as well as the human clothing to match. We will get down and dirty with fabric, leather, metal, whatever it takes to make our horses look truely awesome

Who is invited:  Anyone interested in medieval clothing, specifically as it relates to the horse.  Please be sure to rsvp to Anna.

Time: Starting on Friday after 3pm, until Noon on Sunday. Or just drop by to visit anytime in-between.

Location: W7012 Cedar St, Medford, WI 54451  See Map

Cost: There is no site fee.  We will have breakfast and Saturday lunch available, and a $5 donation toward the food would be appreciated. We also ask everyone to bring a snack or drink to share.

Crash space:   If you wish stay at Chris' house (or Anna's or Susan's as a backup) let Anna know and we will find a sofa or spare bed or floor space for you.  Otherwise there are some reasonably priced motels close by if you prefer that instead.

Food: There will be a couple types of soup/stew in the crock pots on Friday waiting for whenever you come in. The breakfast menus for Saturday and Sunday will include cereal, oatmeal, hardboiled eggs, fruit, juice, milk, coffee, tea and whatever else we come up with.  Saturday lunch will be a taco bar.  If you wish to participate in these, please donate $5 toward purchasing groceries.  On Saturday night everyone will be going to one of the many local restaraunts on their own dime.  In between times we will snack on whatever people bring to share.

Equipment available on site:  We will have several tables, a few sewing machines, an English and a Western saddle with stands, lots of old sheets to cut up and use for patterns and stitching horse.  Chris has internet access, but no wifi.  There will be a library of Anna's books. There will be space and tools for armor making as well.  And of course Chris has several sizes of horses to try things on!

Other Entertainment:  Besides the cameraderie of stitching and pounding together while discussing horses, this will be a good opportunity to discuss Thuri's plans for the October demo.  We can watch videos of our past performance.  Anna will also talk about her experience in Toronto (hopefully with a DVD).

Some projects people will be working on:  Late period Italian clothing and barding, dresses and barding from the Duke Du Berry's Book of Hours, tunics, turkic pants, camp chair covers, helmet covers, cleaning armor, middle eastern saddle blanket.
